NEW YORK
Le 17 avril 1524, le navigateur Giovanni da Verrazzano, missionné par le roi de France François Ier, découvre la baie de New York qu'il baptise la baie Sainte-Marguerite en référence à la sœur de François Ier, et il nomme la terre se situant dans la baie et aux abords du fleuve "La Nouvelle-Angoulême".
Le navigateur hollandais Adriaen Block s'installa durant quelques mois sur l'île de Manhattan en 1613 dans la ville nommée "La Nouvelle-Amsterdam". En 1664, les Anglais conquièrent La Nouvelle-Amsterdam qui est rebaptisée
« New York » en l'honneur de Jacques, duc d'York.

On Saturday July 28, 1945, at the end of World War II in Europe, a B-25 Mitchell51 bomber crashed into the north face of the building at the 79th floor, while flying through thick fog.
The fire was extinguished within 40 minutes but 14 people died in the crash.
Among the survivors, Betty Lou Oliver, elevator operator, survived a fall from 75 floors inside an elevator
